Braodway Recovery Services

About Broadway Recovery Services

Broadway Recovery Services is a sober living operator in Youngstown, Ohio, running certified recovery housing across Mahoning and Columbiana counties. Adam Lonardo founded the 501(c)(3) nonprofit and opened its first recovery home in 2015. It now operates ten residences and attaches its own counseling, case management and peer support to the housing.

A Youngstown Recovery Housing Provider

Most recovery housing operators supply the address and leave clinical care to outside providers. Broadway Recovery Services does both. Credentialed staff deliver peer recovery support, case management, mental health counseling, substance use disorder counseling and community psychiatric supportive treatment alongside the housing. For a resident, the assessment done at admission feeds directly into what support arrives, and one organization is answerable for the bed and the treatment plan together.

Ten Sober Living Homes in Mahoning and Columbiana Counties

The organization publishes ten residences:

  • BRS 1, a men's house in Youngstown.
  • BRS 4, a men's house in Youngstown.
  • Acme Resources, a men's house in Youngstown.
  • VG's House, a men's house in Youngstown.
  • Sonder House, a men's house in Youngstown.
  • BRS 6, a men's house in Salem, in Columbiana County.
  • Gypsy House, a women's house in Youngstown, certified at the Managed level for 12 beds.
  • Satellite 1, Satellite 2 and Satellite 3, women's houses in Youngstown.

Nine of the ten sit in Youngstown. The cluster is tight, and it has a practical effect: moving between houses leaves a resident's job, bus route, caseworker and meetings unchanged.

Men's and Women's Sober Houses Kept Separate

Every residence is single-gender. Six houses serve men and four serve women, and the split is at the house level, so rules, meetings and shared space are written for one population at each address. A woman applying in Youngstown is considered across four houses, and a man across five in the city plus one in Salem.

A Three-Stage Recovery Housing Model

Residents move through primary recovery homes, then satellite houses with more independence and the same support attached, then independent housing with wrap-around services still available. The first thirty days are a blackout period with limited outside contact. Peer mentorship starts at thirty days, employment is expected within sixty to ninety days, and the average stay across the program is about 130 days.

Ohio Recovery Housing Certification Across the Portfolio

Broadway Recovery Services certifies its residences through Ohio Recovery Housing, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, and its certified addresses appear in the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services recovery housing search. Ohio certifies one residence at a time and publishes a level for each, using the words Peer-Run, Managed and Supervised. The registry also records the organization's houses as MAT supported and serving residents with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

What the Numbers Show About This Sober Living Operator

Since 2019 more than 400 residents have discharged positively from the program, which the organization reports as 55 percent of all discharges. Residents contribute over 600 hours a month of community service with local nonprofit partners. Those two figures describe an operator that measures itself on exits and keeps residents occupied while they are in the houses.

Referrals and Partnerships Behind These Ohio Sober Homes

Referrals arrive from substance use disorder treatment facilities, hospitals, courts and mental health professionals, and staff work regularly with people on probation or parole and people leaving homelessness. The organization also partners with the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board, Clubhouse Ohio, Clubhouse International and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Applications for every house go through Broadway Recovery Services, which is the practical case for a multi-house operator: one application, several addresses, and a transfer handled by people who already know the resident.
