About this Recovery House
Residential Reintegration for Men is a men's recovery residence in Binghamton, New York, in Broome County, at 5 Merrick Street. Fairview Recovery Services runs it as a 24-bed Part 820 residential reintegration program.
Twenty-Four Beds of Supervised Recovery Housing for Men
The program offers 24 beds for men in a dormitory-style, supervised congregate environment. Dormitory-style is a real description of daily life: shared sleeping space, shared routine, very little privacy, and constant proximity to other people in the same position. For a man coming out of incarceration or inpatient treatment, that density is the point. Isolation is what precedes most relapses, and this setting makes isolation difficult.
Who the Sober Living Program Admits
Residents are men aged 18 and older, including cisgender, transgender and non-binary individuals who identify with the men's community. Admission requires that a person be stable in their substance use, mental health and medical conditions, and that they demonstrate adequate cognitive functioning, emotional regulation, and social and role functioning. Those criteria describe a reintegration program: it is designed for people who have already been stabilized elsewhere and are working on the return to ordinary life.
Services Delivered Inside the Recovery Home
The program combines housing with case management, support groups, life skills workshops and individual counseling. Residents attend Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and other peer recovery meetings, and the program teaches relapse prevention and intervention strategies. Vocational and educational referrals connect residents to work and school. Support is trauma-informed and identity-affirming, and length of stay is determined by individual needs and progress toward recovery goals.
Referrals From the Courts and Clinical Providers
Referrals come from inpatient and outpatient providers, parole, probation, family court, drug court and other community-based systems of care. A program taking that mix of referrals is used to residents arriving with a case manager, a supervision schedule and a court date already attached, and the house structure is built to accommodate them. Men who arrive on their own meet the same expectations.
Recovery Housing in Binghamton and Broome County
Merrick Street is on Binghamton's east side, across the Chenango River from the downtown where the Broome County courthouse, probation and social services sit. Binghamton is the county seat and the largest city in the Southern Tier, and the county bus network makes the trip downtown routine. Fairview also runs a women's reintegration program at the same address, a scattered-site apartment program with 45 beds, and residences on Clapham Street and Court Street. New York leaves recovery residence certification voluntary, as this certification overview explains.
