About this Recovery House

Reilly House / Men's Transitional Residence is a men's sober living home in Albany, New York, in Albany County, on McCarty Avenue in the city's South End. The Addictions Care Center of Albany describes it as safe, supervised transitional housing for men in the later stages of recovery, and the building holds twelve bedrooms.

Transitional Sober Living at the End of the Continuum

Reilly House is the last stop in this operator's residential ladder, after stabilization, rehabilitation and reintegration. Men here have already done the clinical work and are holding jobs, classes or both. What the house provides is supervision and a stable address during the stretch where someone is entirely capable of living independently and has not yet had the chance to prove it, to a landlord, an employer, a court or himself.

Twelve Bedrooms and What That Size Means in a Recovery Home

A twelve-bedroom transitional residence runs on something closer to household norms than program rules. Men come and go on their own schedules, and the accountability that holds the place together comes as much from the other residents as from staff. That is the right structure at this stage. It would be the wrong structure for someone two weeks out of detox, which is why the operator runs three earlier levels in the same neighborhood.

Who Later-Stage Men's Recovery Housing Suits

The right candidate has a source of income or an education plan, a working relationship with an outpatient provider and enough time in recovery to handle unstructured evenings. The wrong candidate is someone who needs clinical supervision through the day. Anyone unsure which describes them should ask the operator to assess for level of care, since the same organization runs every rung and has no reason to place someone at the wrong one.

Albany's South End and Capital Region Sober Living

McCarty Avenue sits in the South End below downtown Albany, near I-787 and on CDTA routes into the city center and out to the medical corridor. Albany is both a county seat and the state capital, which puts the courts, the state agencies, the department of social services, Albany Medical Center and the region's employers within a compact area. For a man in transitional housing whose whole task is holding a job and an outpatient schedule, the address does most of the logistical work.

The Provider Behind This Transitional Recovery Residence

The Addictions Care Center of Albany has operated as a private nonprofit since 1967 across Albany, Rensselaer and Warren counties, with residences at eight sites, an outpatient clinic on Broadway in Albany, prevention and family support services and a 350-hour CASAC training program. Its residential programs are certified by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports, and its outpatient clinic remains available to men after a transitional stay ends.
