About this Recovery Home

Santa Monica House is an 18-bed women's recovery residence at 401 South 39th Street in Omaha, Nebraska, in Douglas County. It is the halfway house program of Santa Monica, Inc., which provides long-term residential care for women with substance use disorders.

An 18-Bed Women's Sober House in Midtown Omaha

The house sits between the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Joslyn Castle grounds, in the older residential blocks of midtown. Eighteen beds is large enough to hold a real community and small enough that residents know each other. The location puts medical appointments, outpatient providers and downtown employers within a short bus ride, which matters because the program expects women to be employable or doing volunteer work.

What This Omaha Recovery Home Provides

Residential treatment runs inside the house alongside group and individual therapy, life skills training, medical and psychiatric care, support groups and family education. The approach is trauma informed and strengths based, grounded in the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Stays in the halfway house program run from six to twelve months, which is longer than most sober living in Douglas County and reflects what the program is built to do.

Who Qualifies for This Women's Recovery Residence

Residents are women 18 and over. Admission runs through staff screening and requires a diagnosis of chemical dependency. Applicants must be employable or willing to do volunteer work. The program draws from Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, Saunders and Washington counties, so women from the smaller towns around Omaha are eligible rather than turned back to their own communities.

Moving Through the Levels of Sober Living

This house is one stage of a longer arrangement. Women can arrive from a 90-day intermediate residential program and leave for three-quarter or supported transitional housing run by the same organization. Nebraska has no certification scheme for recovery residences, and a program that can move a woman through four levels of support without changing providers gives her something a single standalone house cannot.
