Journey House serves women in recovery, many of them reentering the community after incarceration. The program runs an initial phase of four to six months, structured around peer-led support inside what the organization calls a safe, caring and inclusive living environment. Case managers work each resident toward independent housing and stay involved through the transition.

Reentry Support Beyond Housing

Journey to New Life pairs housing with a First Stop emergency service covering clothing and vital documents, employment services and employer partnerships, and peer support groups and sober social events. The goal, in the words of co-founder Sr. Rose McLarney, is to "seal the cracks so people don't fall through" during the stretch right after incarceration or treatment when a missing document or a missed paycheck can undo months of progress.

Kansas City is the seat of Jackson County and the largest city in western Missouri, with the courts, employers and outpatient providers a reentry program depends on concentrated inside a few miles. Journey House sits inside that network alongside the operator's second residence, Peace House, giving Journey to New Life a combined 36 beds across the two.
