Simmering Center Coed Recovery House

360 Rinehart Rd, Branson, Missouri, 65616

About this Recovery House

The Simmering Center is a peer respite recovery residence in Branson, Missouri, on Rinehart Road. Branson is in Taney County, whose seat is Forsyth, at the southern edge of the Missouri Ozarks.

A Peer Respite Recovery Residence in Branson

This is short-term residential crisis stabilization for people living with substance use disorder, and it works differently from a year-long sober house. Stays run to a maximum of 29 days and average fifteen to twenty. The building is staffed twenty-four hours a day by Certified Peer Specialists, meals are provided, and there is no charge to the guest. In 2023 the center supported 209 people.

Meeting People Where They Are in Recovery Housing

Entry does not require abstinence. That is the design decision that defines the place: someone in crisis who is still using can come inside, sleep, eat, and talk to somebody who has been where they are, without first clearing a bar they cannot clear that week. Medication-assisted recovery is available. The approach is trauma-informed and built on the social model, and the stated aim is dignity for people the system routinely turns away.

What Happens After a Stay at This Recovery Center

Roughly fifty-five percent of guests move into a safe recovery environment when the respite stay ends, and connecting people to treatment and to recovery support services is the center's central work. For many that next address is longer-term recovery housing. New Beginning Sanctuary, which operates this center, also runs sober living homes in Branson, Springfield, Joplin and Kansas City, accredited by the Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers, so the handoff from respite to a bed can happen inside one organization.

Taney County and the Branson Recovery Landscape

Branson's economy is entertainment, lodging and the lakes, and the seasonal hiring that comes with all three. It is the largest town in Taney County, though the county seat and courthouse are in Forsyth, twelve miles east. Cox Medical Center Branson covers the area's hospital care. Crisis capacity in this part of the Ozarks is thin, and a staffed, free, twenty-four-hour door in Branson serves a catchment that reaches well past the county line.

Who a Peer Respite Program Is For

The center suits someone in an acute stretch who needs a safe place for a couple of weeks and a route into services, including people leaving an emergency department, people at risk of losing housing, and people trying to get from a decision to detox without falling through the gap between them. Anyone needing medical detox or ongoing clinical supervision needs a licensed facility instead. The staff are peers, and that is the point of the model.
