About this Sober House

Optimist Crew Sober Living Houses is a men's sober living home on Burns Avenue in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in Ramsey County. It is operated by Optimist Crew and provides structured recovery housing for men on the city's east side.

A Men's Sober House on Burns Avenue

This sober house in Saint Paul serves men in recovery from a residential stretch of Burns Avenue on the city's east side. The neighborhood sits within reach of Metro Transit bus lines running toward downtown Saint Paul and across the river into Minneapolis, giving residents access to both cities' job markets and outpatient providers without needing a car.

Recovery Housing on Saint Paul's East Side

Saint Paul's east side has a long history as a working-class residential district, with small commercial strips, churches and community centers spaced through blocks of single-family homes. That mix gives a resident of Optimist Crew Sober Living Houses somewhere to walk to for groceries and basic errands, which matters in the early months when a car is often not yet part of the picture.

Minnesota Sober Home Certification and This Listing

Certification through the Minnesota Association of Sober Homes is voluntary, and Optimist Crew Sober Living Houses is not currently listed among the state's certified residences. Saint Paul carries one of the largest concentrations of sober housing in Minnesota, certified and uncertified alike, so absence from the roster here says nothing about how the house is run. A prospective resident can ask the operator directly about house rules and expectations.

Recovery Housing in Ramsey County

Saint Paul is the seat of Ramsey County, and the city's east side sits close to the county's human services offices and a wide network of outpatient treatment providers downtown. For a resident managing court dates, a case worker and outpatient appointments at once, that concentration of services within the same city keeps the logistics manageable.

What to Ask Before Moving Into This Saint Paul Sober House

Applications for Optimist Crew Sober Living Houses go through Optimist Crew directly. Worth asking: what the weekly or monthly fee covers, whether a house manager lives on site, what the house's rules are around curfew and meeting attendance, and how a relapse is handled.

The Optimist Sober Living House opened in November of 2013 with a six-bedroom 3 bath, 4400 SF fully renovated home in St. Paul. In August of 2014, we added an additional house located in the same Battle Creek neighborhood. There is on and off-street parking with public transportation available at both houses. Several rooms are large singles. There is a full laundry facility at both locations. Cable Television and utilities are included in the programming fees. Live-in managers provide leadership and orientation for new members.
