About this Sober House

Evergreen House is a certified men's sober living home in East Wareham, Massachusetts, in Plymouth County.

A Men's Sober House in East Wareham

This sober house in East Wareham has run continuously since April 1998, and in that time it has served more than 1,500 homeless men in recovery from across New England. East Wareham is a village of Wareham on Cranberry Highway, a corridor that carries most of the town's commercial traffic and keeps the house within reach of the services a resident needs day to day.

What MASH Certification Establishes

Evergreen House holds Level II certification from the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing. The house has agreed to a published code of ethics, discloses its fees and rules in writing, and accepts outside review of complaints as a nonprofit, congregate sober living residence.

A Structured Phase One Program

Residents at Evergreen House attend mandatory in-house group meetings alongside seven self-help meetings a week, and the house uses random toxicology screening to back that structure up. That level of structure is built for men coming directly out of homelessness or early recovery who need a highly supervised first stop.

A Path to Step-Down Housing

Men who progress through the program in good standing can move to the Marc Thomas Rose House, Evergreen's Phase II graduate home in nearby Wareham, where the structure loosens as residents take on more independence. That step-down option gives a resident a next stage to work toward, not a single fixed endpoint.

Serving Homeless Men in Recovery Across New England

Evergreen House has historically drawn residents from well beyond Plymouth County, and its nonprofit model is built specifically around housing men who came into recovery without stable housing already in place.

Recovery Housing in Plymouth County

Wareham and its villages sit in Plymouth County along the approach to Cape Cod, and Evergreen House's location on Cranberry Highway keeps residents within reach of the wider South Coast service area while the program itself does most of the structural work.

The Evergreen House also works with the Marc Thomas Rose House which is a residence for those in the later stages of recovery. This is the "Phase II" house where men are moved to when they feel more confident with themselves. Organizations are encouraged to reach out to both houses for their community service and volunteer needs as they wish to give back to their communities.
