Mike's Place is a men's sober living home on Spring Avenue in Rockville, Maryland. Rockville is the seat of Montgomery County, in the Washington, D.C. suburbs, and the house sits in Lincoln Park, the historic neighborhood just east of the county courthouse.

Men live here within walking distance of the Rockville Metro station, which is the single most useful fact about the address. The Red Line runs from Rockville into Bethesda and downtown Washington, and Montgomery County's Ride On buses fan out from the same station. A young man without a car can hold a job in three jurisdictions from this house. Lincoln Park itself is one of the oldest Black neighborhoods in Montgomery County, residential and quiet, a short walk from the courthouse, the library and Rockville Town Center.
Who This Rockville Recovery Home Is Built For
The house is aimed at young men, generally in their twenties, and that focus shapes everything about it. Housemates are at similar stages: figuring out work, school, licenses, credit and the ordinary adult machinery that addiction interrupted. The stated purpose is developing basic life and employment skills inside a clean and supportive community. Treatment is not offered here. Residents who need clinical care get it from outpatient providers in Rockville and keep their own clinicians.
Entry Requirements at This Sober Living Home
The operator publishes what it expects before a man moves in and while he is there:
- Thirty or more days of clean time at intake.
- A demonstrated commitment to recovery.
- A transition period of six, twelve or eighteen months.
- A modest resident payment toward household expenses.
- Residents buy and cook their own meals, with some staples supplied.
Buying your own food sounds small. It is one of the more effective pieces of structure in the house, because a man who has to plan and pay for seven days of meals is practicing the exact budgeting and scheduling that keeps an apartment later.
Four Sober Houses, One Peer Community
The operator runs four recovery houses, each holding up to six residents, and two of the four have live-in group managers. Six men per house keeps the household small enough that nobody disappears into it. Running four of them keeps a bed available and lets the operator move a resident to a different household when a fit goes wrong, without the resident leaving Rockville.
Recovery Housing in Montgomery County and the D.C. Suburbs
Montgomery County is Maryland's largest county by population and its services are concentrated in Rockville: the circuit and district courts, the county health and human services offices, Montgomery College and the county's outpatient behavioral health network. The National Institutes of Health campus is in Bethesda, one Metro stop group south, and the county's biotechnology corridor runs up I-270 through Gaithersburg. A young man in recovery housing here has a labor market that very few sober houses in Maryland can match.
Mike's Place is a nonprofit entity whose mission is to provide safe, supportive and clean living to young men in early stages of recovery from substance abuse.
We operate a four bedroom furnished sober house in Rockville, Maryland (close to the town center) with a live-in group manager (an individual active in recovery with 20+ years of clean time), having space for up to six residents. Treatment is not offered, and the residents pay a modest amount to help defray expenses. While some staples are be provided, the residents need to provide their own meals. We believe that having a positive, structured, recovery-centric environment allows the residents to better develop basic life and employment skills, while living in a positive, clean and supportive community. Suitable residents of the house are young male adults (generally in their twenties) who have 90+ days of clean time and a demonstrated commitment to recovery.  We would expect people to stay in the house for a 6 to 12 to 18 month transition period.
