Sober living costs and rent help in Louisiana
In Louisiana, a bed in sober living commonly runs about $155 a week. An equal share of the home's actual costs is what Oxford House members pay, so the number above describes the market rather than this house. Median gross rent in Louisiana, for comparison, is $1,064 a month. Residents short of the first payment often go through Permanent Supportive Housing and SSVF and HUD-VASH or similar state funding. Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health is the state body to start with.
How the Oxford House model works
Oxford Houses are run by the people who live in them, covered by the members' equal shares and required to stay substance-free. New members are approved by those already in the home, so a reported vacancy is a starting point, not a reservation.
Is sober living regulated in Louisiana?
No state licence is required to run a recovery residence in Louisiana. Oxford House charters its own homes, so an Oxford House is usually not on a state affiliate's certified register. People in recovery are a protected class under the Fair Housing Act and under Louisiana Fair Housing Law (Louisiana Revised Statutes Section 51:2606).
