Sober living costs and rent help in Louisiana
In Louisiana, a bed in sober living commonly runs about $155 a week. An equal share of the home's actual costs is what Oxford House members pay, so the number above describes the market rather than this house. By way of comparison, Louisiana's median gross rent is $1,064 monthly. Where paying the share is not possible, state-funded help such as Permanent Supportive Housing and SSVF and HUD-VASH is the usual route. Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health is the state body to start with.
What to know before calling an Oxford House
Oxford Houses are run by their members rather than by staff, covered by the members' equal shares and substance-free as a condition of membership. New members are interviewed and admitted by the members themselves, so calling the house is the only way to learn what is actually free.
Recovery residence standards and oversight in Louisiana
No state licence is required to run a recovery residence in Louisiana. Oxford Houses are chartered by Oxford House, Inc. rather than certified by a state affiliate, so this home will not usually appear on a state certification list. Residents are covered by the Fair Housing Act federally and by Louisiana Fair Housing Law (Louisiana Revised Statutes Section 51:2606).
