Sober living costs and rent help in Louisiana
Typical sober living in Louisiana costs around $155 a week. Oxford Houses work differently: members divide the home's real costs between them rather than paying a fixed rent, so ask the house what its share comes to. By way of comparison, Louisiana's median gross rent is $1,064 monthly. State funding such as Permanent Supportive Housing and SSVF and HUD-VASH exists for residents who cannot cover it themselves. Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health is the state agency that oversees this funding.
How the Oxford House model works
Oxford Houses are resident-governed homes, funded by an equal share from each resident and abstinence-based by rule. New members are voted in by the current residents, so a reported vacancy is a starting point, not a reservation.
Is sober living regulated in Louisiana?
Louisiana does not treat recovery residences as licensed facilities. Certification by the state affiliate and an Oxford House charter are different things; this home holds the latter. Protection runs from the federal Fair Housing Act and Louisiana Fair Housing Law (Louisiana Revised Statutes Section 51:2606).
