About this Recovery House

Esther House is a women's sober house in Terre Haute, Indiana, in Vigo County. It holds Level IV designation on the state's DMHA Recovery Residence list and is operated by Next Step Foundation, the same organization that runs Cornerstone House and several other recovery homes in the city.

A Women's Sober House in Next Step Foundation's Step-Down Tier

Esther House is the women's counterpart to Cornerstone House inside Next Step Foundation's step-down tier, built for someone who has finished residential treatment and still wants group housing and daily structure without a clinical setting. Every resident is a woman, and bedrooms, meetings and house rules are all set up around a single population. Women who need a different level of support later can move to the organization's step-in or step-out housing instead of starting over somewhere new.

Level IV Designation and Recovery Works Eligibility

Esther House appears by name on Indiana's DMHA Recovery Residence list at Level IV, the designation the state's Family and Social Services Administration gives to structured, higher-support group housing. That listing is what lets a resident use Indiana's Recovery Works program toward the cost of staying there, and it commits the house to the code of ethics set by the Indiana Affiliation of Recovery Residences, the state's NARR affiliate.

CARF Accreditation Across Next Step Foundation's Housing

Next Step Foundation holds accreditation from CARF International, which reviews human services organizations against published standards for safety and service quality. The accreditation covers the organization as a whole, so Esther House operates under the same standard as every other residence and clinical program Next Step Foundation runs in Terre Haute.

Vigo County Recovery Housing for Women

Terre Haute is the seat of Vigo County and the largest city in West Central Indiana, built along the Wabash River where Interstate 70 and U.S. 40 meet. Indiana State University, Union Hospital and the county's outpatient providers are all inside city limits, putting a resident of Esther House within reach of work, treatment and court obligations without needing to leave the county.

Sober Homes Next Step Foundation Runs in Terre Haute

Esther House is one of several sober living homes Next Step Foundation runs in Terre Haute. Cornerstone House is the organization's step-down home for men, and Jabez House and Moses House sit at a different point in the same continuum. A resident who later needs more or less structure can move between them under one operator instead of applying somewhere unfamiliar.

ABOUT US Next Step- The Esther House provides both residential programs such as substance abuse groups, AA meetings, peer coaching, case management, life skills training and mental health services.
