About this Recovery Home
The Tile Line Home is a men's sober house in Crystal Lake, Illinois, operated by New Directions Sober Living in McHenry County.
One of Three New Directions Houses in Crystal Lake
New Directions operates three homes in Crystal Lake. The Tile Line Home is one of two that serve male residents; the Ellsworth Home is the other, and the Lincoln Home serves women. McHenry County occupies the northwest corner of the Chicago metropolitan area and runs north to the Wisconsin state line, so a placement here keeps a resident inside the county rather than sending him toward the city.
Men's Recovery Housing in McHenry County
The Tile Line Home serves male residents. Gender-specific housing is the pattern across the New Directions group, and the operator lists each of its three Crystal Lake houses by the residents it takes. Publishing that split means a man knows the composition of the household before he arrives rather than on the day he moves in.
Case Management, Not Just a Room
New Directions attaches case management to its housing. Case managers work with residents to build a resume, reclaim a lost driver's license and pay off outstanding court fees. The homes are described as providing a safe and stable living environment along with services that help residents integrate back into the community.
The Organization Behind the House
New Directions Addiction Recovery Services is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose stated mission is to inspire recovery, foster community and save lives. Beyond housing it runs Connect To Recovery, a peer support call tree, and A Way Out, which offers substance abuse assessment around the clock to anyone in McHenry County who wishes to seek recovery. Administrative offices are at 500 Coventry Lane in Crystal Lake.
Where a Resident Goes Next
New Directions operates a retreat on Kishwaukee Valley Road in Woodstock, described as a transition point for people reacclimating to daily sober life. In November 2025 the organization announced three-quarter apartments on a vacant lot at Borden and Jackson streets in Woodstock. A resident leaving the Tile Line Home therefore has a named next step inside the same organization.
