About this Recovery House
A New Day Sober Living is a men's sober house on West Jefferson Street in Boise, Idaho, in Ada County. It sits on the near west side of the city, a few blocks from the Boise River greenbelt and the downtown core.
A Men's Sober House on West Jefferson Street
Jefferson Street runs through one of Boise's oldest residential grids, where the houses are close together, the sidewalks are continuous, and almost nothing requires a car. For a man in early recovery that geography answers the question that matters most in the first month: whether work, a meeting, a pharmacy and a bus stop are reachable on foot. On this side of Boise they are.
Living in a Sober House Near Downtown Boise
A downtown address changes what a resident's day can hold. State offices, the Ada County Courthouse, the main library, Valley Regional Transit's downtown hub and a dense band of restaurant, retail and service jobs are all within walking distance of the West End. Someone reporting to probation in the morning and working a shift in the afternoon can do both without a vehicle. The trade is noise, foot traffic and proximity to the bars that line the streets north of the river, which is a real consideration for some residents and irrelevant to others.
Idaho Does Not Certify Recovery Residences
Idaho has no certifying body for recovery residences. There is no registry, no state affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, and no published levels for any house in the state. That means a men's sober house in Boise cannot be verified against a list, and it also means no house is penalized for being absent from one. The substitute is direct diligence. Visit. Read the agreement. Ask the outpatient providers and recovery centers in the area which houses they refer people to. In a state that regulates nothing here, referral patterns are the closest thing to a public record.
How Boise Compares for Ada County Recovery Housing
Boise is the seat of Ada County and the largest city in Idaho, and it holds the great majority of the state's recovery housing. That depth is the argument for starting a search here. A resident who finds a house is a poor fit has other options inside the same county and the same bus system, and a family helping from out of state can compare several houses in one visit. Most Idaho cities offer neither.
What to Ask This Boise Sober Living Home Before Moving In
The fee and what it covers. Whether a house manager lives in the house. How many men share a bedroom, and whether the room is assigned or chosen. What conduct ends a stay, how much notice a resident gets, and what happens to a deposit. Whether medication for opioid use disorder is accepted. Whether work, meetings or a curfew are required and from which day. A house willing to put those in writing before move-in has given a resident more protection than Idaho law provides. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare publishes the state's directory of behavioral health programs and crisis services.
