What a bed costs in Florida, and what help exists

In Florida, a bed in sober living commonly runs about $205 a week. Oxford Houses work differently: members divide the home's real costs between them rather than paying a fixed rent, so ask the house what its share comes to. Median gross rent in Florida sits at $1,669 a month. That money is administered by Florida Department of Children and Families.

How Oxford House membership works

Oxford Houses are resident-governed homes, supported entirely by the residents' own contributions and substance-free as a condition of membership. New members are taken on by the people already living there, so an opening is not the same thing as an acceptance.

Recovery housing standards in Florida

Florida does not treat recovery residences as licensed facilities. Florida Association of Recovery Residences (FARR) is the NARR affiliate here, and its certification is voluntary. Oxford House charters its own homes, so an Oxford House is usually not on a state affiliate's certified register. The state's list of certified residences is published here. Protection runs from the federal Fair Housing Act and Florida Fair Housing Law (Florida Statutes Section 760.23).
