About this Recovery House

Real Recovery Sharkey Road is a men's recovery residence on Sharkey Road in Clearwater, Florida, the seat of Pinellas County. Twelve-step meetings run on the property itself, three of them, which is unusual enough to be the first thing worth knowing about the house.

Three AA Meetings on the Property of This Clearwater Sober House

Most sober living asks residents to travel to meetings. Here three AA meetings are held on site, so a man without a car or a license, which describes a lot of people in their first ninety days, still gets to a meeting. Each unit has its own washer and dryer. Living space is renovated, with granite counters, modern appliances, large common rooms and high-speed internet, and the house keeps an industrial grill going for cookouts.

How This Men's Sober Living Home Handles Structure

Residents are men. Staff with lived recovery experience are on site 24 hours a day, random breathalyzer and drug testing runs twice weekly, and household chores are shared. Length of stay is set by the resident's progress instead of a fixed calendar, and the monthly program fee folds in utilities, internet, cable and all testing. A one-time administration fee of $150 is due at intake.

Clearwater Recovery Housing and the Pinellas County Seat

Clearwater is the county seat, so the courthouse, the clerk's office and much of the county's public health and social services sit inside the city. That matters for a resident with probation reporting, a driver's license to restore or a benefits application in progress. Gulf to Bay Boulevard runs east to west across the peninsula and carries PSTA bus service toward Tampa, and the Courtney Campbell Causeway puts Hillsborough County jobs within reach on the same corridor.

Voluntary Certification for Florida Sober Living Operators

The Florida Association of Recovery Residences is the only credentialing body the state's Department of Children and Families has approved for recovery residences, and Florida law makes participation voluntary. A certified house has agreed to publish its fees and rules, keep a written relapse and discharge policy and answer complaints reviewed outside the house. Ask the operator to confirm the current status of this address before signing anything.

Clearwater is one of seven Real Recovery sober living locations. St. Petersburg and Tampa are the closest, and Brandon, North Tampa, Bradenton and New Port Richey complete the map. Moving between them keeps a resident inside one organization, one fee structure and one set of house expectations.
