About this Recovery House
Liberty Recovery Residence is a men's sober living home in Harrington, Delaware, in Kent County. Impact Life operates the nine bed house, one of the few certified recovery residences anywhere in central Kent County, and it is certified through the First State Alliance of Recovery Residences.
A Men's Sober House in Central Kent County
Harrington is a small city of a few thousand people in southern Kent County, best known as the home of the Delaware State Fairgrounds and Harrington Raceway. Downtown is a handful of blocks of older homes, a café, a couple of restaurants and a hardware store, all within walking distance of each other. That compactness is the point for a recovery residence. A man without a car can reach most of the town on foot, and the town is quiet in a way that the Wilmington houses are not.
Recovery Housing Along the Route 13 Corridor
Harrington sits on US 13, the spine that runs the length of Delaware and connects Dover to Milford, Seaford and the rest of the lower state. Dover, the state capital and the Kent County seat, holds the county courthouse, the state offices, Bayhealth's Kent Campus and most of the county's outpatient treatment. Milford and its hospital lie the other way. A resident of a Harrington sober house is on that corridor, which is what makes appointments and probation reporting workable from a town this size.
Nine Beds and Recovery Housing Scarcity in Lower Delaware
Most of Delaware's certified recovery beds are concentrated in New Castle County. Kent and Sussex have far fewer, and a man from central Delaware who wants to stay near his family, his job or his children has historically had to move an hour north to find a certified bed. Nine beds in Harrington is a small number against that gap, and it is nine more than the town had.
How Admission to This Recovery Residence Works
Impact Life does not publish the street addresses of its recovery residences, and placement is arranged through the organization. Applications go to its admissions team, which handles every house it operates from Wilmington to the coast. Someone leaving treatment or incarceration in central Delaware can be considered for this house and for the others in the lower counties in a single conversation.
What FSARR Certification Requires of a Sober House
Certification through FSARR obliges a residence to work under a published code of ethics, to give an applicant its fees and house rules in writing before he signs, to keep a written policy on relapse and discharge, and to accept complaints handled outside the house. Delaware does not license recovery residences, which makes this the main public standard behind any sober house in the state, and it matters most in the small towns where there is nothing else on record.
