Project Detour houses up to nine women at a time in a shared residence in central Colorado Springs, on the same campus as the operator's men's program and its residence for mothers with young children. The house is built for women who are currently experiencing homelessness or working through substance use, including women transitioning out of incarceration and women referred through the Colorado Department of Human Services.

Entry Requirements and the First Weeks

Applicants document 14 days of clean urine analysis before moving in, which the program uses as a baseline confirming someone is ready for a working household. Once in the house, residents work a minimum of 29 hours a week, whether in a job, an educational program or documented volunteer work.

Structure and the Weekly Rhythm

Homeward Pikes Peak asks every resident of Project Detour to keep the same core routine:

• A weekly house meeting.
• Attendance at AA meetings and recovery coaching sessions.
• Regular check-ins with an assigned case manager.
• Participation in intensive or extended outpatient programming.
• Shared household responsibilities.

The monthly program fee is $650. Homeward Pikes Peak reports roughly a 71 percent graduation rate for the program since 2018, a figure the operator ties directly to the accountability built into the weekly structure above.

Recovery Housing in Colorado Springs and El Paso County

Colorado Springs anchors El Paso County and the wider Pikes Peak region, and Project Detour draws on that base for the outpatient providers, courts and employers its residents need during the program. Homeward Pikes Peak has run housing in the city since 2002, and Project Detour is one part of a small campus that also includes a men's transitional home and a residence for mothers with young children.
