Hazelbrook Sober Living - Sunlight House Recovery House

East Colfax Avenue, Aurora, Colorado, 80010

About this Recovery House

Hazelbrook Sober Living - Sunlight House is a sober house in Aurora, Colorado, in Arapahoe County, and an adults-only address certified under Colorado's recovery residence system.

An Adults Only Recovery Home

Family housing is not offered through this operator, so children do not live in the house. That is the standard answer across most of Colorado's recovery housing stock and a hard limit for a parent with custody or working to regain it. Raising the question at the first call lets the operator rule the house in or out immediately, before an application has already begun.

A Sober House in Aurora, Colorado

Aurora sits on the eastern edge of the Denver metropolitan area and holds a large share of Arapahoe County's population and its entry level jobs. Littleton is the county seat. The Anschutz Medical Campus, the Aurora municipal complex and several outpatient providers, along with the retail corridors that do most of the hiring, all fall inside one bus and light rail network.

Certification Behind This Recovery Housing

Colorado does not license sober living the way it licenses a clinical facility. It approves certifying bodies instead, and Ohio Recovery Housing - Colorado is the one that certifies recovery residences in the state today. A certified house commits in writing to a code of ethics, to disclosing fees and rules before a resident signs, to a relapse and discharge policy on paper, and to an outside complaint process. House Bill 19-1009 tied state referrals and funding to that certificate.

Part of a Statewide Network of Sober Living Homes

Hazelbrook Sober Living Homes operates more than thirty five houses for men and women across the state, four of them designated Transitional Safety Zone homes, with offices in Aurora and Colorado Springs, under co-founder and director Geno Shvedov. The same standards, certification and intake process apply at every address in the network.

What to Ask Before Moving Into This Sober House

State certification obliges the operator to disclose these in writing before an application is final, so bring them up before moving in:

  • The move in cost, including any deposit, and when it is refundable.
  • Whether employment or school is required, and how soon.
  • How drug and alcohol testing is run and how often.
  • The curfew and the guest policy.
  • What the discharge policy says in writing.
