Taproot Recovery

About Taproot Recovery

Taproot Recovery is a sober living operator in Etowah County, Alabama, running certified men's and women's recovery residences in Attalla and Gadsden. Both houses are certified through the state's NARR affiliate, and the two sides of the operation are directed separately.

An Etowah County Sober Living Operator

This is a small, local operation working in the county where its directors live. Decisions about admissions, fees and discharge are made by people who can be reached, and the operator's standing rests on one certifying body and one set of neighbors. Clint Doyle directs the men's side and Lori Doyle the women's, which means an applicant deals with the person responsible for the house they are actually entering.

Men's and Women's Sober Houses in Attalla and Gadsden

Two certified recovery residences carry the Taproot Recovery name:

  • Taproot For Men, in Attalla, certified at Level II with capacity for 18 men.
  • Taproot For Women, in Gadsden, certified at Level III with capacity for 9 women.

Neither house publishes a street address, so placement runs through the operator and an applicant learns the location during the process. The two cities adjoin each other along the Coosa River, which keeps both houses inside one set of courts, providers and employers.

Certification Across These Recovery Residences

Both houses are certified by the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences, and Alabama grants that certification residence by residence, never to a company as a whole. Each certified address commits to a published code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy, and a complaint process outside the house. Certification is voluntary in Alabama, and an operator carrying it on every house it runs has chosen to work inside an external standard.

How Placement Works With This Recovery Housing Provider

Applications go to the operator, and the single-gender split is decided at the door: men to Attalla, women to Gadsden. That is the practical case for a two-house operator over a standalone sober home. A family with two people needing housing deals with one organization, and a resident whose circumstances change is talking to someone who already knows the history.

Sober Homes Serving Etowah and Calhoun Counties

The operator's service area runs across Etowah and Calhoun counties, the two population centers of northeast Alabama. Gadsden and Anniston hold the courthouses, the hospitals, the outpatient providers and most of the region's jobs, and the surrounding counties hold very little certified recovery housing. An operator working both counties therefore serves referrals from a much wider area, including Marshall, Cherokee, DeKalb and St. Clair.
