Sunshine for Humanity, Inc. is a sober living operator and nonprofit based in Eagle River, Wisconsin, serving Vilas County and the surrounding Northwoods region.

A Nonprofit Recovery Housing Provider Since 2008

Sunshine for Humanity was founded in 2008 with a mission centered on ending and preventing homelessness, and it has grown into an organization running several connected programs, well beyond a single service. Recovery housing is one piece of a broader operation that also includes emergency shelter and a community store providing donated goods at no cost.

One Organization, Several Programs

The nonprofit runs its sober living program alongside emergency and transitional shelter services for families, women and men experiencing homelessness. Keeping recovery housing under the same roof as general shelter services gives the organization a wider set of options for someone whose needs shift over time, from crisis housing toward a longer-term sober living arrangement.

Admission Standards Across the Organization

Sunshine for Humanity admits on a first-come, first-served basis and requires that applicants be able to care for their own personal needs and remain stable enough for communal living. The organization maintains a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol and drugs, with testing at admission and randomly afterward, and does not admit anyone with a conviction for a sexual crime.

Serving Vilas County and the Northwoods

Eagle River is the seat of Vilas County and the largest population center across a wide stretch of Wisconsin's northern lakes region. A sober living operator based here serves a much larger geographic area than an equivalent organization would in a denser part of the state, since options thin out quickly once someone leaves Eagle River itself.
