About Stevenson Recovery
Stevenson Recovery is a sober living operator in Stevenson, Alabama, working in Jackson County at the point where the state meets Tennessee and Georgia.
An Independent Sober Living Operator in Jackson County
This is local recovery housing, run without a parent organization, a treatment company or a national network behind it. Most housing in rural Alabama looks like this. It is usually started by someone who came through recovery in the same county and could see how few beds there were, and it survives on rent and on whatever the local churches and civic groups contribute. The upside for a resident is that decisions get made by a person who is reachable. The cost is that there is no head office to appeal to and no second location to move into if the fit is wrong.
Recovery Housing Providers and the Alabama Certification Framework
Alabama licenses no housing-only recovery residence. The Department of Mental Health certifies substance use treatment providers and publishes nothing about residences, so the only external standard in the state is voluntary certification through the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences, the Alabama affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences. Thirty-nine residences statewide hold it, almost all of them in the metro areas. An operator outside that list is operating the way most Alabama providers operate, and the standards certification would document have to be established directly with the operator instead.
What This Sober Living Operator Serves in Northeast Alabama
Jackson County covers a lot of ground with few people on it. Scottsboro is the county seat and holds the courthouse, the hospital and most of the outpatient providers, and Chattanooga takes a large share of the region's jobs and treatment traffic across the state line. A provider working here is placing residents into a county where transportation is the first problem to solve and the nearest alternative bed may be an hour away in either direction.
Questions to Ask This Recovery Housing Provider
With a small independent operator, ask the questions that a certifying body would otherwise ask on your behalf. How long has the housing been running. Who holds the lease or the deed. What is the weekly rate, what does it cover, and what is charged on top of it. What is the written policy after a relapse, and who decides. How is a deposit refunded when someone leaves early. Is there a house manager on site, and what happens overnight. An operator who answers all of that in writing has given you most of what certification is for.
