Southern Oklahoma Addiction Recovery

About Southern Oklahoma Addiction Recovery

Southern Oklahoma Addiction Recovery is a nonprofit recovery program based in Ada, Oklahoma, serving Pontotoc County as an alternative to incarceration for nonviolent offenders.

A Court-Partnered Nonprofit in Ada

Southern Oklahoma Addiction Recovery, known as SOAR, was founded around 2008 to close a specific gap in southern Oklahoma's criminal justice system: courts had no long-term alternative to jail for nonviolent offenders whose underlying problem was drug or alcohol addiction. The organization built its program as a partnership between the courts, local employers, churches and community groups.

A Therapeutic Work Program Model

SOAR's program centers on work: participants hold jobs while living in the program and receiving addiction treatment, which is meant to build both sobriety and self-sufficiency at the same time. That model is less common than a purely clinical residential program, and it reflects the organization's founding purpose as a court-ordered alternative to incarceration.

Serving Men, With Plans to Expand

SOAR currently serves men through its program, with stated plans to launch a comparable track for women. Until that expansion happens, its capacity is limited to nonviolent male offenders referred through the courts and the broader community.

Certification Status in Oklahoma

Recovery residence certification through the Oklahoma Alliance for Recovery Resources is voluntary in Oklahoma, and SOAR's absence from that roster is not a negative finding. Court-partnered work programs like SOAR often operate under a different set of legal and referral relationships than a typical certified sober house.

Serving Pontotoc County and Southern Oklahoma

Ada is the county seat of Pontotoc County, in south-central Oklahoma, and SOAR's referral network draws from courts across the surrounding region. A program built on local partnerships with employers and churches works best rooted in one community, which is the model SOAR has run since its founding.
