About Santa Maria Hostel, Inc.

Santa Maria Hostel, Inc. is a recovery residence operator in Houston, Texas, providing certified recovery housing and treatment for women in Harris County. It is one of the largest multi-site residential providers for women in the state, and both of its certified residences hold Level III certification from TROHN.

A Houston Recovery Housing Provider Built Around Women

Santa Maria works with one population and has organized everything around it. The programs are designed for women, including women who are pregnant or parenting, and the organization has operated in Houston long enough to be woven into the city's referral network. That specialization is the reason to look at it. A general-purpose operator can house a woman; a provider built for women can house her with a toddler, coordinate with a child welfare caseworker, and keep the pregnancy and the recovery on the same care plan.

Two Certified Sober Living Addresses in Houston

The organization runs two certified recovery residences in the city:

  • The Bonita House campus at 2605 Parker Road in north Houston, the main campus.
  • The Women's Recovery Residence and Community Center at 807 Paschall Street in the Near Northside.

The two sit roughly six miles apart on the north side of the city, which gives the organization room to place a resident where the program fit and her practical logistics line up. Santa Maria also maintains a location on Parsons Road in Manor, outside the Houston area.

Level III Certification Across These Recovery Homes

Both Houston residences are certified by TROHN at Level III, the supervised tier of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences model. Level III means paid staff on site, a structured program schedule and organizational oversight above the household. Texas uses two of the NARR levels in practice, II and III, and the difference matters to an applicant: Level II is peer housing with a manager, and Level III is a staffed program. An operator carrying Level III on every residence it runs has chosen the more demanding standard on both addresses.

What Certification Obliges a Texas Sober Living Operator To Do

Texas does not license recovery residences. Certification through TROHN, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, is the only credential, and it is voluntary except for providers taking state funds, grants or referrals, a requirement Texas adopted in 2023. Certification binds the operator to a written code of ethics, to disclosing fees and house rules before a woman moves in, to a documented relapse and discharge policy, and to a complaint process that reaches outside the residence. TROHN certifies residence by residence, so an applicant should confirm the specific address she is applying to.

Serving Harris County and the Houston Region

Harris County is the most populous county in Texas, and Houston, its seat, holds the criminal and family courts, the county behavioral health system and the Texas Medical Center. Women arrive at a provider like this one from all of those directions: from detox, from the courts, from child welfare referrals and from treatment programs across the region. Women's recovery beds are the scarce half of the Texas market everywhere, and beds that accept a mother with an infant are scarcer still, so a Houston provider running two staffed women's residences carries weight across a service area much larger than the city.

Who These Houston Recovery Residences Are For

The programs suit women leaving detox or inpatient treatment who need a staffed, structured setting, and particularly women who are pregnant or parenting and cannot separate their recovery from their children. Ask the organization how long a typical stay runs, which ages of children each residence accommodates, how it handles medication for opioid use disorder, how it coordinates with the family courts, and what the plan looks like for moving into independent housing afterward.
