About Rising Sun Sober Living

Rising Sun Sober Living is a sober living operator based in Boise, Idaho, providing recovery housing in seven Idaho cities. It has run since 2008 and keeps its office on West Ustick Road in Boise, which makes it one of the longest-established recovery housing providers in the state.

An Idaho Sober Living Operator Since 2008

Eighteen years is a long run in recovery housing, an industry where houses open and close on the strength of one person's energy. In a state with no certifying body, no registry and no inspections, duration is one of the few durable signals available to a family. An operator that has kept houses full and neighbors quiet across two decades and seven cities has been watched by every treatment provider, probation officer and city code enforcement office in those cities. That record is the thing a certificate would summarize elsewhere.

Recovery Housing Across Seven Idaho Cities

The operator works in Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Lewiston and Pocatello. Very few Idaho providers reach past a single metro, and this footprint spans the Treasure Valley, the Magic Valley, eastern Idaho, southeastern Idaho and the Clearwater region in the north. Boise is the largest concentration. Idaho Falls is described by the operator as its biggest structured option on the eastern side of the state. The reach has a specific value for residents: Idaho is a big, thinly populated state, and a person whose job or family pulls them 250 miles can stay inside the same program instead of starting over with a stranger.

Men's and Women's Sober Houses Under One Operator

Some cities are coed at the operator level and some are single-gender. Boise, Nampa, Caldwell and Lewiston serve men and women. Twin Falls and Idaho Falls are men only. Pocatello is women only. Running both populations means a couple leaving the same treatment program, or two friends discharged the same week, can be placed by the same office in the same city under the same fee structure. It also means an applicant should confirm which gender the city she or he is applying to actually houses.

Why This Recovery Housing Provider Withholds Addresses

Rising Sun does not publish the street addresses of its homes, and states that resident privacy and safety are the reason. Placement runs through the office, and the address comes during the application. In a state with no certifying body to compel disclosure, that is a defensible policy, and it puts a step between a curious neighbor and a house full of people early in recovery. An applicant should still expect a walkthrough before committing, and should ask for one directly.

What No Idaho Agency Certifies for Sober Living Operators

Idaho does not certify, license or register recovery residences. There is no state affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, no published levels, and no agency that inspects a house or hears a complaint about one. The state licenses assisted living and residential habilitation, and recovery housing sits outside both. Everything a certifying body would normally guarantee has to be requested from the operator directly, in writing, and a provider of this size should have all of it ready.

One Application, Several Idaho Sober Homes

Applications go to Rising Sun, which places residents across its cities. The operator states that every house is near a grocery store, work, a bus line and meetings, which in Idaho terms means the arterials that transit actually serves. Questions worth asking at the operator level: how long a typical stay runs, what the fee is in the city being applied to, whether referrals come from treatment providers or corrections, how deposits are documented and refunded, and how a complaint gets escalated past the house.

Statewide Reach for a Sober Living Operator

Idaho's recovery housing is concentrated in the Treasure Valley, and much of the state has almost none. An operator working in Lewiston, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Twin Falls is supplying beds in places where the alternative is often a 200-mile move to Boise. That is the main thing this provider does that a Boise-only operator cannot. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare oversees Idaho's publicly funded behavioral health services.
