Release Recovery
About Release Recovery
Release Recovery is a sober living operator based in Purchase, New York, in Westchester County, running transitional living residences in the county and in Manhattan. Zac Clark founded the organization in 2017. It now keeps over 80 beds across New York and Texas and pairs its housing with its own accredited outpatient treatment programs.
A Westchester Sober Living Operator With Its Own Clinics
Most recovery housing organizations do one thing. This one runs housing and clinical care side by side, which changes what a resident experiences when a level of care ends. Release Recovery Centers deliver partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and standard outpatient programming, between 12 and 25 hours of structured support a week, and the transitional living residences supply the address and the household. A resident stepping down clinically keeps the same bed, the same housemates and the same expectations. The handoff that ends a lot of people's recovery simply does not happen.
Release Recovery Sober Homes in New York
Four transitional living residences carry the name in New York:
- A men's transitional living home in Purchase, in Westchester County.
- A women's transitional living home in Purchase, in Westchester County.
- A men's transitional living home in New York City, in the Flatiron, Greenwich Village and Upper East Side neighborhoods.
- A women's transitional living home in New York City, in the same set of neighborhoods.
A fifth site operates in Austin, Texas. The New York houses split cleanly between a suburban Westchester cluster and a Manhattan cluster, and the organization also runs outpatient clinics in both states.
Men's and Women's Recovery Housing Kept Separate
Every residence is single gender, and men's and women's houses are separate households in separate buildings. In Westchester a man applies to the men's house and a woman to the women's house. The same split holds in the city. Keeping the division at the building level means house rules, meetings and shared space are written for one population and a resident is never the only man or the only woman in a mixed building.
Accreditation Behind This Recovery Housing Provider
Release Recovery Centers is accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports, and its Austin clinic is Joint Commission accredited and licensed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Those credentials cover the treatment programs. A prospective resident should read them as evidence that the organization submits to outside inspection, which is the most useful thing an accreditation tells you about a company you are about to trust with a family member.
New York Recovery Residence Certification
A treatment license and a recovery residence certification are different instruments, and confusing them is the most common error in New York listings. OASAS licenses treatment. OASAS separately certifies recovery residences under Part 860, and that program is voluntary, as is certification by the New York State Alliance of Recovery Residences. An overview of sober house certification in New York explains how the two systems fit together. No New York recovery residence is required to carry either.
One Intake, Several Sober Living Homes
Applications go through Release Recovery, which is the practical argument for a multi house operator over a standalone home. A man is considered for Westchester or Manhattan, and a woman for the corresponding houses, and a placement that turns out wrong is a conversation with people who already know the resident. The questions to ask at the operator level are different from the ones about a particular house: how long the organization has held its accreditation, how housing fees and clinical charges are billed separately, what happens to a resident's housing when a clinical program ends, and how a complaint escalates past the house manager.
