Pathway to Recovery
About Pathway to Recovery
Pathway to Recovery is a sober living operator in Indianapolis, Indiana, that has housed Hoosiers recovering from homelessness, addiction and mental illness since 1991, running six programs across Marion County.
An Indianapolis Recovery Housing Provider Since 1991
Pathway to Recovery runs its entire operation with only four full-time staff, supplemented by program graduates who return as peer support volunteers. Each year the organization houses close to 150 individuals and families across its programs, a scale unusual for an operator this lean.
Six Programs Across the City
Pathway to Recovery operates six housing programs in total, ranging from a 24-bed entry-level program for people arriving with almost nothing to substance-free permanent housing at the far end of the continuum. Dove House for Women is one of the organization's named programs, created to preserve a community resource for homeless and indigent women recovering from substance abuse after it fell into financial difficulty during an earlier economic downturn.
Rebuilding Blighted Properties Into Housing
Five of Pathway's six programs began as vacant, drug-affected properties that the organization converted into safe, substance-free housing. That approach ties the organization's mission directly to neighborhood revitalization, not just individual recovery.
A Peer-Supported Continuum of Care
Residents who complete Pathway's entry-level program often return as volunteers supporting the next person coming in, which keeps the organization's cost structure low and its peer network deep. Five of the six programs are financially self-supporting by the residents living in them.
Serving Marion County
Indianapolis anchors Marion County and the state as a whole, and Pathway to Recovery's programs sit inside the city's larger network of treatment providers, courts and transit. That scale is why an organization built on four staff members can still serve close to 100 people at any given time.
