Outreach
About Outreach
Outreach is a sober living operator and treatment provider in Brentwood, New York, running certified recovery housing and outpatient programs across Long Island and Queens. Its administrative base is in Richmond Hill, and its residential capacity is concentrated on two campuses in Suffolk County and one in Queens.
A Long Island and Queens Recovery Housing Provider
Outreach operates across two very different service areas: suburban Suffolk County and dense urban Queens. That reach matters at intake, because a family in Ridgewood and a family in Riverhead are working from entirely different transportation, school and court systems, and an operator present in both can place a person where the rest of their life already is. The organization also runs a training institute, which is a marker of a provider that trains the workforce as well as employing it.
Where the Recovery Residences Are
Residential capacity sits at three locations:
- 400 Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood, Suffolk County, holding Outreach House II for adolescents, the Young Adult Residence in Building 3, and the recovery residence for women.
- 998 Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood, where the recovery center and the men's community residence occupy Building 5.
- 16-14 Weirfield Street in Ridgewood, Queens County, the adolescent residential program.
Outpatient services run from Bellport, Roosevelt, Richmond Hill and Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood, and the administrative and training offices are at 117-11 Myrtle Avenue in Richmond Hill. A resident finishing residential care can usually continue outpatient treatment with the same organization at a site closer to home.
Sober Living Programs Split by Age, Not Just Gender
Most recovery housing operators divide their portfolio by gender alone. This one divides by age as well. Adolescents aged 12 to 18 have dedicated residences in Brentwood and Ridgewood, both running a modified therapeutic community model with accredited schooling inside the building. Young adults aged 18 to 25 have a residence of their own, described by the operator as the first program of its kind on Long Island. Adults have a men's community residence and a women's recovery residence. Age-banded placement keeps the peer group functional, which is the mechanism congregate recovery housing actually runs on.
Certification Across the Recovery Homes
The residential programs are licensed and certified by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports. The adult residences fall under Part 820, covering residential addiction services, and the youth residential rehabilitation program in Ridgewood falls under Part 817. New York does not require recovery housing to be certified, so state credentials across a portfolio reflect a deliberate position on oversight. Provider certifications are recorded by OASAS.
Housing Tied to Treatment, and What That Commits a Resident To
Across the adult residences, participation in an outpatient program is a condition of living there, and the operator provides transportation between the residences and its Brentwood outpatient site. Weekly toxicology testing runs in the men's residence. Anyone looking for housing without a treatment obligation is a poor fit here. Anyone with a treatment plan and no stable address is exactly the intended resident, and the two halves are designed to hold each other up.
Paying for a Place in These Sober Houses
Outreach accepts Medicaid, Medicare, most insurance plans and sliding scale arrangements. Questions worth putting to the operator at the organization level include how referrals from outside the service area are handled, what the wait looks like for each residence, how the veterans' track at the recovery center is accessed, and how the aftercare handoff works when a resident moves from residential to outpatient care.
