About Midsouth Sober Living

Midsouth Sober Living is a sober living operator based in Memphis, Tennessee, running recovery housing in Shelby County since 2008. The program is operated by Second Chances Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Andy and Pam Branham.

A Memphis Recovery Housing Provider Since 2008

Midsouth Sober Living began with a single women's house and has since added a second program for men referred through the courts. Walter Williams joined as executive director in 2013, the same year the operator opened its women's house, and the organization is now led by Executive Director Grace Pipkin under a board of Memphis business and recovery-community leaders.

Serving Women and Men in Recovery

The operator runs a twelve-bed women's sober house in Midtown Memphis and, since 2016, Judicare, a forty-bed men's supportive living facility built through a partnership with the Shelby County Drug, Mental Health and Veterans Courts. The two programs serve different populations under one nonprofit umbrella.

A Court-Connected Recovery Housing Program

Judicare gives men an alternative to incarceration by pairing supportive housing with state-licensed addiction treatment and recovery services on referral from the specialty courts. It is one of the earlier programs of its kind bridging Tennessee's judicial system and recovery housing, running continuously since 2016.

Certification and State Funding

Second Chances Foundation operates under a grant contract with the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and is recognized as a tax-exempt nonprofit, which is the public record a family can check before recommending either program to someone leaving treatment.

Recovery Housing Across Shelby County

Memphis is the seat of Shelby County and the hub of West Tennessee, and Midsouth Sober Living's two programs put both a resident-run women's house and a court-supervised men's program within the same city's network of outpatient providers, courts and community resources.

Reaching Midsouth Sober Living in Memphis

Referrals to Judicare come exclusively through the Shelby County specialty courts. Women applying to the Peabody Avenue house can reach the organization directly to ask about rent, house rules and an open bed.
