Kate's House Foundation

About Kate's House Foundation

Kate's House Foundation is a sober living operator based in Seattle, Washington, running twelve certified recovery homes across the city. Frank and Sherri Candelario founded the organization in 2015 with a single house, and it now operates as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit under a model it describes as compassionate investment: houses acquired and maintained to serve recovery housing, with financial return treated as secondary.

A Seattle Sober Living Operator Since 2015

Kate's House Foundation has run recovery housing in Seattle for over a decade, starting with the Red House and adding new properties gradually, one at a time. That pace shows in the houses themselves: each has its own character and, in a few cases, a shared yard with its nearest neighbor in the network.

Twelve Sober Homes Across Seattle

Kate's House Foundation operates twelve sober living homes in Seattle: the Red House, Blue House, Gray House, Green House, Ivory House, G2 House, Coffee House, and Yellow House, along with the Grey House, the Women's House, and homes in the Rainier Valley and White Center neighborhoods. The G2 House and Coffee House sit next to each other and share a yard, and several of the houses each serve a specific population within the broader recovery community.

Serving Men and Women in Recovery

Most of the houses serve men and several serve women, including a house built specifically for mothers working toward reunification with their children. Keeping housing single-gender at the house level lets Kate's House Foundation write rules and structure for one population at each address instead of managing a mixed household.

WAQRR Certification Across the Portfolio

Kate's House Foundation homes are certified at Level 2 by the Washington Alliance for Quality Recovery Residences, the state's NARR affiliate. WAQRR certification is voluntary in Washington, so an operator that has certified this much of its portfolio has chosen to work inside a published code of ethics and an outside complaint process voluntarily.

A Model Built on Owned Real Estate

Kate's House Foundation describes its approach as compassionate investment: the foundation acquires and finances the properties it operates, which gives it direct control over maintenance and long-term stability instead of relying on leased space that can turn over. The organization holds a Platinum Seal on Candid and a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, both third-party markers of nonprofit transparency.

One Application, Twelve Sober Houses

Applications go through Kate's House Foundation directly, and the organization's size gives it room to place a resident in whichever of its twelve Seattle houses fits: a men's house near a VA facility for veterans, a women's house built around reunification, or one of the foundation's other men's or women's homes elsewhere in the city.
