Impact Wisconsin
About Impact Wisconsin
Impact Wisconsin is a sober living operator and peer support nonprofit based in Waupaca, Wisconsin, serving Waupaca County and the rural counties around it. Alongside its recovery residences, the organization runs a crisis line that answers around the clock, the Ezra Project recovery program, and peer resiliency specialist training.
A Nonprofit Recovery Housing Provider in Central Wisconsin
Impact Wisconsin is a 501(c)(3), which shapes how the housing works. Beds are one service among several instead of the whole business, and the organization is answerable to a board and to the community that funds it. Residents get the housing plus a peer network that already exists: the same organization holds the lease, staffs the crisis line and trains peer specialists, so a resident who wants more than a bed has somewhere to go that does not require another intake.
Two Recovery Residences in Waupaca
The organization operates two recovery homes, both in Waupaca:
- The Lilac House, a women's recovery residence with a household of five.
- The Lotus House, a men's recovery residence with a household of five.
Keeping a men's house and a women's house in the same city means a couple, siblings or friends from the same treatment cohort can both be placed locally without sharing a household. It also means the operator can take a referral for either gender and answer in one conversation.
Men's and Women's Sober Houses Kept Separate
Both residences are single-gender, and the organization runs them as separate households with separate front doors. That decision does the quiet work in a small house: rules, meetings and shared space are written for one population, and nobody is the only man or the only woman in a mixed building. In a five-bed residence, where the household is the entire social world for a while, that matters more than it would in a thirty-bed facility.
Registered With the State Recovery Residence Registry
Both houses are listed on the recovery residence registry maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Wisconsin does not license recovery residences, and the registry is the state's public record of who operates them and where. An operator that has put every house it runs on that list has chosen to be findable, which is the first thing a referring clinician or a family in another county can actually verify.
Medication-Accepting Sober Living Homes
Both residences accept residents taking medication for opioid use disorder. Rural Wisconsin has fewer prescribers and longer drives than the Fox Valley or Madison, so a resident on buprenorphine or methadone is already managing a logistics problem. Housing that excludes them turns it into a crisis. Applying the same policy at both houses means the answer does not change depending on which one has an opening.
Serving Waupaca County and Rural East-Central Wisconsin
Waupaca is the county seat, and county human services, the circuit court and the hospital are all in the city, with the Fox Valley labor market a short drive east. Recovery housing across east-central Wisconsin is thin outside Appleton and Oshkosh, so a local operator running two residences in the county seat covers a service area much larger than the city. People leaving treatment in the surrounding townships usually find these are the nearest beds that keep them in their own county.
