Horizon House
About Horizon House
Horizon House is a sober living operator based in Duluth, Minnesota, running two certified men's recovery homes in the city under owner Joseph Brennan. Both houses hold certification through the Minnesota Association of Sober Homes and serve as a bridge for men moving out of inpatient treatment and into independent life.
A Duluth Recovery Housing Provider
Horizon House frames its own purpose plainly: a bridge between an inpatient facility and the real world. The organization does not deliver clinical treatment. It provides structured housing, accountability and a defined set of expectations, while residents continue whatever outpatient care, meetings or medical follow-up they need elsewhere in the city.
Two Certified Houses in Duluth
Horizon House operates:
- Horizon House West, on North 60th Avenue West in Duluth's west side, for men.
- Horizon House East, on East 3rd Street near downtown Duluth, for men.
Both houses run under the same admission standards and program fees, so the choice between them comes down to which part of the city better suits a resident's job, transit needs or existing support network.
Serving Men in Recovery
Horizon House works exclusively with men, and both of its Duluth houses require a minimum of thirty days of sobriety before admission. That threshold sets Horizon House apart from sober living options that accept residents straight out of detox, and it signals a house built for men who have already stabilized and are focused on rebuilding a job, a schedule and a support network.
MASH Certification Across Both Locations
Both Horizon House properties hold a Certificate of Compliance from the Minnesota Association of Sober Homes, the state's NARR affiliate, against NARR's Quality Standards. Certification in Minnesota is voluntary, and an operator that has certified its entire two-house portfolio has committed to a published code of ethics, disclosed fees and rules, and an outside complaint process at both addresses.
A Structured Program With No Fixed Timeline
Horizon House sets clear daily expectations, including three twelve-step meetings a week and thirty-two hours of work, school or volunteering, but it does not impose a fixed length of stay the way a halfway house program would. A $350 deposit and $700 monthly fee apply at both houses, published directly by the operator.
Recovery Housing for the Duluth and Arrowhead Region
Duluth is the seat of St. Louis County and the hub for social services, treatment and transit across northeastern Minnesota's Arrowhead region. Horizon House's two locations, one on each side of the city, put its residents within reach of the Duluth Transit Authority's full network and the concentration of outpatient providers based in and around downtown.
Applying to Horizon House in Duluth
Applications go through Horizon House directly. The operator requires thirty days of prior sobriety at either house, along with the $350 deposit and $700 monthly fee. Worth asking: which of the two Duluth locations currently has an open bed, and what the house's relapse and discharge policy covers.
