Henry's House
About Henry's House
Henry's House is a sober living operator in Chicago, Illinois, running four recovery residences in Cook County.
Who Runs Henry's House
Henry McGhee founded and owns Henry's House. Fox News reported that he worked in law enforcement for the Illinois State Police and resigned after struggling with cocaine addiction, and that he lived in a recovery residence himself before opening his own. The same reporting recorded fifteen years in business and an estimate of more than eight thousand people housed.
Four Chicago Recovery Residences
Henry's House operates Harvard Residences on South Harvard Avenue, Ingleside Residences on South Ingleside Avenue, Drexel Residence on South Drexel Avenue and Ellis Residence on South Ellis Avenue. Chicago's SHARE Network records four sober living locations in the Woodlawn, Grand Crossing and Englewood communities. All four are recorded as coed.
Henry's House Sober Homes and Outpatient Care
The SHARE Network describes Henry's House as a sober living home that offers individual outpatient treatment services. Published supports include referral to detoxification programs, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, recovery education, relapse prevention, job assistance and mentoring. This recovery housing provider therefore delivers housing and outpatient care under one name.
The House Standard Across Every Address
Every Henry's House resident either holds a job or seeks work daily. Meeting attendance runs to five Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous sessions a week. Groceries are bought weekly and the receipt goes to the house manager. McGhee told Fox News that a resident who drinks a beer cannot stay.
Certification Through IAEC
The Illinois Association of Extended Care lists Henry's Sober Living House on its register of certified recovery residences. IAEC is the Illinois affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences and publishes no level for any individual residence. IAEC maintains the certified list.
Who Henry's House Serves
Henry's Sober Living House states that it supports men and women in reclaiming their lives from addiction. Fox News reporting described a resident population that included many Black men who had completed prison terms for drug convictions, and reported that the state of Illinois pays for many residents.
