Guildhaus
About Guildhaus
Guildhaus, Blue Island, Illinois, is a certified sober living operator in Cook County working with men in recovery.
The Firefighter Who Started It
Jack King was a retired Chicago fireman who had a dream to open a halfway house for men struggling to recover from drug and alcohol addiction. In 1986 he purchased a Canal Street building already named Guildhaus and kept the name, and on January 1, 1987 he held the very first AA meeting there. Jack King died in 2006, leaving what the organization calls the legacy and brotherhood of Guildhaus.
What Guildhaus Says It Is For
Guildhaus states its mission as providing men with the support and structure needed for the foundation of their recovery programs, so that they return home and rebuild relationships with their loved ones and their communities. The outcome the organization names is going home.
How the Organization Is Structured
The organization runs a halfway house alongside a separate recovery home, both for men, in what it calls a family-like atmosphere. Guildhaus says its staff work with understanding, compassion and expertise.
Standing With Illinois Certifying and Licensing Bodies
Guildhaus is a member in good standing with the Illinois Association of Extended Care, the state's NARR affiliate, and appears on the association's list of certified recovery residences. It is separately approved, licensed and partially funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery.
A South Suburban Recovery Housing Provider
Working from Blue Island, Guildhaus serves the south suburban Cook County recovery community. Anyone searching for Guildhaus sober homes, or for a men's recovery housing provider south of Chicago, is looking at an organization founded in 1987 and carrying both a voluntary certification and a state license.
