About Fresh Start Housing

Fresh Start Housing is a sober living operator based in western Washington, running a network of alcohol and drug-free houses across Grays Harbor, Thurston, Pierce, Mason and King Counties. Tim and John founded the organization in the fall of 2012 after learning, at a Kiwanis seminar, how much local need there was for clean, affordable sober shared housing.

Fresh Start Housing runs the same standard at every address it operates: a clean, safe, alcohol and drug-free house paired with weekly counseling and connections to outside resources, including alternate housing, employment help, legal aid and basic necessities. The organization describes its growth as happening one county at a time, which is visible in how its houses now span the state from the coast to Puget Sound.

Fresh Start Housing operates seven Washington sober homes: two on West Heron Street in Aberdeen, a coed house in Olympia, a men's house in Shelton, two men's houses in Tacoma, and a men's house in Seattle. That spread lets the organization place someone close to family or a job anywhere across a wide stretch of western Washington.

A Counseling-Centered Approach to Recovery Housing

Fresh Start Housing supplies weekly counseling and leaves outpatient care and prescribers with providers already established in the community, instead of running clinical treatment on site. Its role is the housing itself: keeping the environment sober, the rules consistent, and residents connected to the outside resources that keep a recovery plan on track.
