F5 Project

About F5 Project

F5 Project is a sober living operator based in Fargo, North Dakota, running recovery housing in four cities across the state. It started in Cass County in 2016 as a grassroots effort and has grown into a statewide organization with eight locations, an office in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and services that reach well past the front door of a house.

A Recovery Housing Provider Built by Someone Who Needed One

Adam Martin founded F5 Project in 2016. The origin is not a marketing story: after his fifth felony he decided there had to be more to life than that, and the organization takes its name from both that history and the refresh key on a keyboard. What grew out of it is a nonprofit working to disrupt the cycle of crime, addiction and isolation through individualized care. The organization hires people with lived experience in the justice and recovery systems, which shows up in how residents are talked to and in how quickly staff understand a supervision condition or a background check.

Where F5 Project Sober Homes Operate

Four recovery housing operations carry the F5 Project name in North Dakota:

  • Fargo, in Cass County, housing both men and women.
  • Bismarck, in Burleigh County, housing men.
  • Grand Forks, in Grand Forks County, housing men.
  • Minot, in Ward County, housing men.

Those four cities cover the eastern, central and northern population centers of the state. The operator does not publish street addresses for its residences, so placement is arranged through the organization.

What $695 a Month Covers in F5 Project Recovery Housing

The published program fee is $695 per month across the housing program, and it includes housing, utilities, WiFi, peer support and program services. A single price applied consistently is one of the real advantages of choosing a multi-city operator: a resident moving from Grand Forks to Bismarck for work is not renegotiating what the number means, and a referring provider in one city can tell a client exactly what it will cost in another.

A Recovery Housing Provider on the State Assistance Roster

F5 Project is a participating provider in North Dakota's Recovery Housing Assistance Program, which the Behavioral Health Division of North Dakota Health and Human Services runs. RHAP covers up to twelve weeks of living expenses for an eligible resident at a participating home. Participation is a decision an operator makes: it accepts state funding, works inside the program's rules, and appears on a public roster by city and by the population it serves. For someone leaving custody or treatment with nothing, an operator on that roster is the difference between a bed in theory and a bed available now.

Employment and Peer Support Around the Sober Homes

Housing is one service among several. The organization also runs employment assistance, Free Through Recovery, Community Connect and the Akisni Warrior Lodge, and residents reach all of it through the same organization that holds their lease. Housing and employment are the same problem for someone with a record, and solving them under one roof is the operating premise here.

Men's and Women's Sober Homes Across North Dakota

Men can apply in any of the four cities. Women's housing is in Fargo, which reflects where the demand and the staffing sit and is the honest limit of the network. A woman elsewhere in the state applying to this operator is looking at a move to Cass County, and anyone weighing that should ask about it directly before committing to the drive.

Who These North Dakota Sober Homes Are For

The program is built for people leaving incarceration or treatment who need an address, an income and a network in the same month. Anyone needing clinical supervision on site is a poor match. Applications go through F5 Project, and the questions worth asking at the operator level are how RHAP eligibility is assessed, how a transfer between cities works, what the house expects around employment and meetings, and what the plan looks like when the twelve weeks of assistance end.
