Esther's Residence

About Saint Andre Home

Saint Andre Home is the parent organization of Esther Residence, a recovery residence for women in Saco, Maine, in York County. It is a Maine organization with more than one program under it, and recovery housing is one part of a broader mission rather than the whole of what it does.

About Saint Andre Home

The organization runs its work through branches. Alongside its Saco women's housing program, Saint Andre Home operates CourageLIVES, a program for survivors of human trafficking. That is a different service from recovery housing, but the two share an underlying orientation toward women who are rebuilding after a period in which very little was within their control.

Esther Residence Joins Saint Andre Home

Esther Residence, described by the organization as a trusted transitional housing program for women in Saco, joined Saint Andre Home as a branch of the organization with effect from 8 August 2025. Since taking it on, Saint Andre Home has said it is reviewing the program's operations while preparing for a relaunch, and that it anticipates welcoming new residents in 2026.

Serving Women in York County

York County runs along Maine's southern coast, from the New Hampshire line up through Biddeford and Saco toward Portland. Women's transitional and recovery housing is scarce across the whole state and scarcer outside Cumberland County, so a long-established program in Saco occupies a place in the region that is not easily replaced. Anyone inquiring about a place should approach the parent organization directly.

A Maine Recovery Housing Nonprofit Since 1940

Saint Andre Home has been a Maine charitable organization since 1940 and is a registered 501(c)(3). Eight decades in one state is a long run for an organization of this size, and it is why courts, probation officers and treatment providers in southern Maine know the name. The nonprofit also brings services to its housing that a standalone recovery residence seldom carries: support and counseling, outpatient therapy, case management, housing support, transportation and fuel assistance, employment and educational support, and referrals to other providers. A woman in the Saco program is inside an organization that can help with the practical obstacles that sit around housing.

What to Ask Saint Andre Home About Sober Living in Saco

Services at Esther Residence are paused while the organization reviews how the program operates and prepares to relaunch, with new residents anticipated in 2026. Timing is therefore the first question: when applications reopen, how a place is requested in the meantime, and whether a waiting list is being kept. The rest are the standard operator questions. Which referral routes the organization accepts, from jails and probation, from treatment providers, and from women approaching on their own. How fees are set and documented, and what a resident pays herself. How a concern escalates past house staff to the nonprofit's leadership. And whether the residence will carry certification from the Maine Association of Recovery Residences when it reopens, since certification is what commits a Maine recovery residence to published standards and to a complaint process outside the house.
