ENSO Recovery
About ENSO Recovery
ENSO Recovery runs recovery residences in Augusta, Maine, alongside the outpatient addiction treatment clinics it operates in the same towns. Its work sits in two parts of the state: Augusta, in Kennebec County, and Sanford, in York County. Across those two hubs the organization describes a network of five recovery residences, tied back to its clinical programs rather than run as standalone rentals.
How ENSO Recovery Treats Housing
Recovery housing and clinical treatment are usually run by different organizations, and it falls to the resident to bridge the two. ENSO Recovery is built the other way round. The operator describes housing as clinical infrastructure rather than as a separate service to coordinate, which means the organization running a resident's outpatient care also runs the roof over their head.
The model is phased. Residents move through stages, and the later stage is set aside for people preparing for independent living, with the operator reserving a specific property for that part of the program. There is no fixed discharge date attached to the model; ENSO describes itself as the last house on the block, the place that keeps working with people who have run out of other options.
All of ENSO's recovery homes accept residents who are on medication-assisted treatment. That policy runs across the network rather than varying house by house, so a prescription for medication for opioid use disorder does not put a placement out of reach.
Who ENSO Recovery Serves
The operator's stated primary population is people coming out of incarceration, together with community members who have no financial resources to reach housing and treatment on their own. That shapes where the houses go. ENSO runs medication-assisted treatment programs inside county jails in Lincoln, York and Kennebec counties, and it buys homes in the counties where those jail programs operate, so that someone leaving custody can move into housing connected to the same clinical team rather than into a vacuum.
ENSO says it was the first program in Maine to bring medication-assisted treatment inside county jails. It also describes itself as a state and national advocate for pre-arrest diversion, the practice of routing people toward treatment rather than charges at the first point of contact with law enforcement.
Certification Across the ENSO Network
ENSO states that it is certified by the Maine Association of Recovery Residences at Level II and Level III across the five recovery residences in its network. MARR's current certified-residence directory lists the operator under three house names: Bridge Recovery Augusta at Level 3, Bridge Recovery Sanford at Level 2, and 90 Western Ave. at Level 2.
MARR certification is the yardstick Maine uses for recovery residences. A certified house has been reviewed against a written set of operating standards and appears in a public directory that anyone can check, which is the single most useful thing to verify before signing on anywhere. The level attached to a house describes the type of residence it is rather than ranking its quality, and it is a fair guide to how much structure to expect.
Homes Operated by ENSO Recovery in Augusta and Sanford
On the Augusta side, the houses sit on and around the Western Avenue commercial corridor in the west of the city, near the Augusta Civic Center, with the operator's clinic at 90 Western Avenue providing medication-assisted treatment, intensive outpatient programming and outpatient therapy. Three MARR-certified residences make up the Augusta network, among them a women's house and the later-phase housing at the clinic address itself.
In Sanford, ENSO runs separate residences for men and for women, anchored to its outpatient center on Winter Street near the downtown. Much of who the Sanford side serves is people entering treatment for the first time or in the earlier phases of court involvement.
Each ENSO house carries its own listing in this directory, with the detail specific to that address, including who it serves, its MARR level and its immediate surroundings.
