Chrysalis Center

About Chrysalis Center

Chrysalis Center is a sober living operator in Hartford, Connecticut, running recovery housing in the state capital and Hartford County. The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services lists its housing among the state's supported recovery housing programs.

A Hartford Nonprofit and Its Recovery Housing

Chrysalis Center is a Hartford nonprofit working across housing, behavioral health and support services for people rebuilding after homelessness, incarceration or addiction. Its recovery housing is one program inside a much larger organization. That scale changes what an operator can offer. A nonprofit already running supportive housing and case management has staff, funding streams and referral relationships a small landlord does not, and it also carries a wider mission, so a resident should establish which of those services actually attach to the housing.

Supportive Services Around a Recovery Residence

The gap most people fall through is the one between treatment and housing. An organization that does both closes part of it. A resident can arrive with a case manager already assigned, and a discharge from one program can lead into another inside the same agency instead of into a cold call. The questions to ask are specific: which services come with the housing, whether staff are on site, how long a resident can stay, and what happens at the end of that period.

What Connecticut's Recovery House Listing Establishes

DMHAS publishes supported recovery housing availability in two categories, sober houses and recovery houses, and Chrysalis Center's program sits on the recovery house roster. The listing establishes that the state recognizes the housing and routes people into it through the system providers and recovery navigators use. Recovery residence certification is a separate track, granted by the Connecticut Alliance of Recovery Residences, the state's NARR affiliate, which binds a residence to a code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules, a relapse and discharge policy, and outside complaint review.

Recovery Housing in the Capital City

Hartford is the state capital, the county seat and the center of Connecticut's health and social service network. Hartford Hospital, Saint Francis and the Institute of Living are here. The Superior Court and the state agencies are downtown. CTtransit is centered on the city and the CTfastrak busway runs west to New Britain. More of the state's outpatient and intensive outpatient capacity sits inside the city limits than anywhere else, which is why so much of Connecticut's recovery housing is here. For a resident, that concentration means the required appointments are reachable on one transit system.

Reaching Chrysalis Center's Recovery Housing

Referrals and applications go through the organization. Ask what the cost is and how it is paid, who is on site and when, what services are attached to the housing, how long residents typically stay, what the written relapse and discharge policy says, and whether medication for opioid use disorder is accepted. Ask what the housing plan is for a resident at the end of a stay. An agency working across supportive housing should have that answer ready.
