Breaking Chains Recovery

About Breaking Chains Recovery

Breaking Chains Recovery is a sober living operator based in Cambridge, Maryland, running certified recovery housing in Dorchester County. The organization operates a women's recovery house and, more recently, a second residence for men, and both hold certification through Maryland's Certification of Recovery Residence program.

A Dorchester County Sober Living Operator

The organization runs its recovery homes from Cambridge, the seat of Dorchester County and the commercial center of Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore. A psychiatric nurse practitioner works alongside the housing program, giving residents access to mental health support without a separate, off-site referral for that piece of care.

Serving Cambridge with Two Sober Houses

Breaking Chains Recovery operates two certified recovery houses in Cambridge:

  • Breaking Chains Women's House, the organization's original residence.
  • Breaking Chains Men's House, added to house up to twelve men in recovery.

Splitting the population across two households keeps house rules and shared space written for one gender at a time.

What MCORR Certification Establishes

Both houses are certified under MCORR, Maryland's Certification of Recovery Residence program administered under COMAR 10.63.08. Certification requires a published code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy, and acceptance of outside complaint review. Maryland does not publish certification levels, so neither house carries one.

Recovery Housing on the Lower Eastern Shore

Cambridge sits on the Choptank River and serves as the hub for Dorchester County and much of the surrounding Lower Eastern Shore, an area with comparatively few certified recovery residences. An operator running two certified houses from one city gives residents in this part of the Shore an option close to home.

One Application, Two Sober Houses

Applications go through Breaking Chains Recovery directly, and the organization places new residents into whichever of the two houses fits their gender and circumstances. A resident who needs to change housing after move-in is dealing with an operator who already knows their history.
