Blue Mountain Escape

About Blue Mountain Escape

Blue Mountain Escape is a nonprofit sober living operator based in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, licensing recovery houses across the Harrisburg region under the state's Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.

A Cumberland County Recovery Housing Provider

Blue Mountain Escape runs housing rather than clinical treatment. Each licensed house supplies a supervised address and house structure, while residents draw on outpatient treatment, prescribers and meetings elsewhere in the region. Operating as a nonprofit means the organization answers to a board rather than a single owner.

Seven Licensed Houses in the Harrisburg Region

Blue Mountain Escape licenses the following recovery houses:

  • West Green Street, Mechanicsburg, for men.
  • South High Street, Mechanicsburg, for men.
  • Frederick Street, Mechanicsburg, for pregnant women.
  • West Factory Street, Mechanicsburg, for women.
  • Eutaw Avenue, New Cumberland, for men.
  • North Hanover Street, Carlisle, for men.
  • Harris Street, Harrisburg, for women.

Six of the seven sit on the West Shore, in the Cumberland County boroughs of Mechanicsburg, Carlisle and New Cumberland, and the seventh is across the Susquehanna in Harrisburg itself.

Housing for Men, Women and Pregnant Women

The operator separates its houses by population: four for men, two for women, and one licensed specifically for pregnant women in Mechanicsburg, a population many recovery housing operators are not set up to serve.

What DDAP Licensure Requires

Pennsylvania licenses recovery houses through the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs under Act 59 of 2017, and licensure is voluntary. Blue Mountain Escape licenses every address in its portfolio, meaning each one has been inspected against the state's standards individually rather than relying on one flagship property to represent the rest. Pennsylvania's certification and licensing process for recovery housing operates separately from NARR affiliate certification, which the state's affiliates do not publish address by address.

Serving the Harrisburg Region

Cumberland and Dauphin counties together make up the core of the Harrisburg metropolitan area, and Blue Mountain Escape's cluster of houses on both sides of the Susquehanna gives it a footprint that spans the region's West Shore boroughs and the capital itself.

Reaching Blue Mountain Escape

Applications go directly to the organization. Because Blue Mountain Escape runs houses split by gender and, in one case, by a specific population, it can place a referral at whichever of its seven addresses fits, rather than working from a single house with a single set of vacancies.
