Atlantic Outreach Group
About Atlantic Outreach Group
Atlantic Outreach Group is a sober living operator in Richmond, Virginia, running thirty-six certified recovery residences across the city and one in Sandston, in Henrico County. The organization took its nonprofit designation in 2010 and is the largest single provider of certified recovery housing in the Richmond area.
A Richmond Recovery Housing Provider That Started With Reentry
Atlantic Outreach Group did not begin as a housing organization. It began in 2010 providing resources to people reentering society from incarceration, widened its service area in 2014 to all vulnerable populations in the greater Richmond area, and spent its first eight years as a resource center: computer access, a small food pantry, bus passes, financial literacy, emergency assistance. Housing came out of that work. By 2018 it had become the most requested resource the organization had, and a temporary emergency housing program followed. The recovery housing portfolio grew from there, and in 2025 the organization moved into a twenty-five thousand square foot facility to bring its programs under one roof.

Certified Levels Across These Virginia Sober Homes
Every residence appears on Virginia's public register of certified recovery residences, accredited through the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences, and each carries its own Level of Support. The split is even: eighteen residences at Level 2, which VARR calls Monitored, and eighteen at Level 3, Supervised. Virginia grants certification residence by residence, so a prospective resident should confirm the level of the specific address being offered. An operator carrying the credential on every house it runs has chosen to work inside a published code of ethics, written fee and rule disclosure, and an external complaint process at every address.
One Application Across Thirty-Six Recovery Homes
Applications and referrals go to the organization. That is the practical case for a large operator over a standalone house: a man applying is considered for whichever men's residence has a bed and matches his stage, a woman for whichever women's residence does, and a resident who needs more structure or less can move between the monitored and supervised houses without changing providers, fee schedules or case managers. Referrals arrive from treatment providers, courts and hospitals, and the operator also takes direct applications.
What This Sober Living Operator Provides Beyond the Housing
The recovery work sits inside a wider set of programs. Residential programming of forty-five to one hundred twenty days combines structure with evidence-based care; the long-term sober living homes carry no set time limit, so a working resident can stay while savings and a rental history build. Around the housing the organization runs peer support, case management, life skills training, access to mental health, substance use and medical services, a food pantry, a mobile pantry and a pet food pantry that helps residents keep their animals. Graduates of the structured phase continue in Prevention+, which keeps the housing standard and the accountability in place after the program ends.
A Sober Living Operator Serving Richmond and Sandston
Thirty-five residences sit inside the city of Richmond, which belongs to no county, and one sits in Sandston in eastern Henrico County, whose county seat is the independent city of Richmond. The concentration is deliberate. Richmond holds the courts, the community services board, VCU Health, the state agencies, the entry-level employers and the GRTC bus network that residents of recovery housing use, and Virginia's Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services builds Region 4 around the city. An operator of this size inside one metropolitan area can place someone the week they need placing, which is what most of central Virginia's referral network is actually calling about.
