About An Angel's Wing

An Angel’s Wing Inc. (AAW) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 in Lewiston, Maine, by individuals personally affected by the opioid crisis. Their mission is to end the opioid epidemic in Androscoggin County and the broader state of Maine by providing comprehensive support to individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder (SUD). AAW offers a range of services, including recovery housing, harm reduction initiatives, treatment placement assistance, and community outreach programs.

- Founder & Executive Director: Debra York, with a background in customer service and business, has dedicated her life to helping others achieve success. 

- Co-Founder: Joshua Stoehner.

AAW operates several MARR-certified recovery residences in Maine:​

• Cory’s Place: A 10-bed women's recovery residence in Winthrop, focusing on women with children in protective custody.​

• Kristopher’s Home: A 4-bed women's recovery residence in Winthrop, designed for early recovery stages.​

• Beth’s Place: An LGBTQ+-friendly certified recovery residence in Lewiston, offering inclusive housing and support services.​

• Women & Children’s Home: Located in Mechanic Falls, this structured home provides holistic recovery support for women and their children.

The organization is led by a dedicated team, including:​

• Debra York: Founder & Executive Director, with a background in business and a focus on substance use.​

• Joshua Stoehner: Co-Founder.​

• Wendy O'Conner, RN-BC, BSN, CCE: A registered nurse with extensive experience in maternal-newborn health.​

• Clarice Proctor: With 25 years in non-profit finance, currently pursuing an MBA.​

• Shannon Chase: Chairman of the Board, a business owner and advocate for ending the stigma around SUD.​

• Peggy Ouellette, FPMH-NP: Founder of Functional Family Psychiatry, focusing on holistic family health.​

• Lana Whittemore: Development Director of Blue Sky Counseling, with experience in mental health and substance use initiatives.
