About Alternatives, Inc
Alternatives, Inc. is a sober living operator and community corrections nonprofit based in Billings, Montana, running certified residential programs across Yellowstone County since 1980.
A Billings Reentry and Recovery Housing Provider
Alternatives, Inc. exists to move people out of incarceration and active addiction and into stable, working lives. Housing is the tool the organization uses most: residents live under structured supervision while they rebuild employment, sobriety and the routines that keep both intact.
Two Residential Programs in Billings
Alpha House, on 1st Avenue North, is the men's program, holding residents under 24-hour supervision for roughly six months. Alderson House is the operator's second residential program in the city. Both are registered with Montana's Department of Public Health and Human Services and certified through the National Sober Living Association.
Structured Supervision as the Core Model
Residents at both houses live under close supervision and are required to hold a job, attend counseling, stay abstinent from drugs and alcohol, and follow facility rules without exception. That structure runs heavier than a typical peer-run sober house, because Alternatives, Inc. takes people directly out of incarceration or the earliest stage of recovery, where a lighter touch would not hold.
Recovery Housing for Yellowstone County
Billings is the county seat of Yellowstone County and the largest city in Montana, and Alternatives, Inc. has built more than four decades of standing in the community around that location. A resident leaving custody or inpatient treatment in south-central Montana is more likely to land at one of its houses than anywhere else in the region, since few operators run programs at this scale.
