New Door Sober Living Corp - Sturgeon Bay Recovery House

Third Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, 54235

About this Recovery House

New Door Sober Living Corp - Sturgeon Bay is a sober living home in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, the seat of Door County on the Door Peninsula. Co-founders Angie Levens and Eli Phillips opened the house in 2021 after seeing how few sober living options existed in the county.

A Membership-Model Sober House in Sturgeon Bay

New Door Sober Living runs the house on a membership model, not market rent: residents cover bed and meals, attend recovery meetings, take on assigned chores, and pick up basic life skills they may not have had a chance to learn elsewhere. Some residents find work through the founders' own contracting business or resale store, and others work elsewhere in the county.

Registered With Wisconsin's Recovery Residence Registry

This house is registered with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services recovery residence registry under Wis. Stat. Section 46.234, and for a period it was the only Door County residence on that list. Registration is voluntary and self-attested. It stops short of an inspection or a license, and it is still a public record that confirms the house exists and identifies who runs it, which matters in a county with few other sober living options to compare against.

Serving Door and Kewaunee Counties

Sturgeon Bay sits at the base of the Door Peninsula and functions as the service center for both Door and Kewaunee counties, so residents here have the courthouse, the county health department and the peninsula's main hospital within the same small city. That matters more in winter, when co-founder Eli Phillips has said calls for a bed pick up sharply once the frost sets in and other housing options for people in early recovery narrow.

What a Membership-Model Sober House Asks of Residents

Because New Door Sober Living runs on a membership model, the questions worth asking are slightly different than at a typical sober house: what the membership fee actually covers, how chores and meeting attendance are enforced, whether work through the founders' businesses is expected or optional, and how long a resident typically stays before moving on. An organization that has run this house since 2021 should have clear, practiced answers.
