About this Recovery House
Pathways Sober Living - Women is a women's sober house in Kiel, Wisconsin, in Manitowoc County. Registered with the state for eight residents, it is the largest of the operator's women's homes in Kiel and one of the two Pathways houses that have been on the Wisconsin recovery residence registry since the summer of 2024.
An Eight-Bed Women's Sober House in Kiel
Eight is a deliberate size for a women's recovery home. It is large enough that the household has its own momentum on a bad week, when two residents are working second shift and one is in the middle of something hard, and small enough that nobody disappears into it. The house is women only, which resolves the questions most women ask first about shared recovery housing: who is in the building overnight, how bathrooms and bedrooms are arranged, and whether the rules were written with a woman's first month in mind.
Recovery Housing Attached to a Treatment Program
The house belongs to the Pathways organization, which runs residential detox, adult and adolescent residential treatment, day treatment and outpatient care from its Kiel campus. That changes what a sober living bed means here. A woman stepping out of residential treatment does not leave the organization to enter housing, and a woman who needs to step back up to day treatment does not have to find a new provider to do it. The continuum is under one name.
Medication-Assisted Recovery Is Accepted
Residents taking buprenorphine or methadone are accepted. Acceptance is far from universal in recovery housing, and for a woman stabilized on medication the alternative is a search that keeps returning houses that will not take her prescription. Wisconsin's recovery residence registry records the medication policy of every house on it, which is one of the few points where the state's public record answers a question a resident actually has.
Kiel and Manitowoc County Recovery Homes
Kiel is a small city on the Sheboygan River where Manitowoc and Calumet counties meet. Manitowoc, the county seat, sits northeast on Lake Michigan; Sheboygan is southeast, Fond du Lac west, Appleton northwest, each within about an hour. That position is why an operator based here can serve four counties from one town. For a resident, the trade is that a car or a reliable ride matters more in Kiel than it would in a city with a transit system, and work within walking distance is worth more here than the same job would be elsewhere.
What to Ask Before Moving Into This Women's Recovery Home
Wisconsin publishes no street addresses for recovery residences, from the state registry or from the certifying body, so placement is arranged directly with the operator. Before agreeing to one, ask what the weekly fee covers and what it does not, whether a deposit is refundable and how that is recorded, who is on site overnight, whether beds are shared, what is expected of a resident during working hours, and what happens after a relapse. Those answers should come in writing.
