About this Recovery Home

Restore Life #1 is a men's recovery residence on 27th Street in Richmond, Virginia, operated by Restore Life. The city sits outside any county and falls in the state's behavioral health Region 4. It is certified at Level of Support 2 by the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences, the tier VARR calls Monitored.

A Men's Sober House on 27th Street

The house is in the 23223 ZIP code in Richmond's East End, on one of the numbered streets that run up from the river through Church Hill and the blocks above it. It serves men in a single household. The setting is ordinary residential Richmond, which is the point: a recovery home works best on a street where a resident's daily life looks like everybody else's.

Three Restore Life Sober Homes, One Set of Rules

Restore Life runs three men's residences, two in Richmond's East End and one in Chesterfield County, and it operates them as a single program. Expectations, fees and discharge terms are the operator's, not each house's, so a man who needs a different household is not renegotiating the whole arrangement. The Chesterfield house offers a quieter setting away from the city; the two East End houses put him inside the bus network. Moving between them is a conversation with people who already know his history.

Certification Is Mandatory for Virginia Recovery Residences

In Virginia, operating a recovery residence without certification is a Class 1 misdemeanor. Only VARR and Oxford House can grant a credential the state accepts, and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services publishes the residences that hold one. That is a stronger statement than certification carries in most states. A house on the list is meeting a legal requirement, and the list itself names the address, the accrediting body, the population served and the level of support, so every claim on it can be checked by a resident, a family member or a referring case manager.

What Monitored Recovery Housing Delivers

Level 2 supplies the things early recovery usually lacks. A stable address that does not depend on a friend's goodwill. A curfew and a house meeting that put a shape on the week. Housemates who recognize the signs of someone slipping, because they have all been there. Written terms so a resident knows in advance what will end a stay. What it does not supply is clinical care, which comes from outside providers on the resident's own schedule.

East End Richmond Recovery Homes

Richmond is the state capital and the center of behavioral health Region 4, and its East End holds a heavy share of the region's certified recovery housing. Richmond Behavioral Health Authority provides publicly funded treatment and peer recovery services citywide. GRTC connects the neighborhood to downtown, the courthouses, the VCU medical campus and the warehouse and retail employers that hire people rebuilding a work history. For a man coming out of treatment in one of the surrounding counties, this is usually the nearest address where all of that sits inside one bus fare.
