About this Recovery Home
Patterson Park Sober Living - Patterson House is a men's recovery home on Patterson Avenue in Henrico, Virginia, in Henrico County and inside DBHDS Region 4. It is the operator's westernmost address and one of three men's houses it runs in the Richmond area.
A Men's Recovery Home on the Patterson Avenue Corridor
Patterson Avenue is one of the main east to west routes through western Henrico County, running from the Richmond city line out past Parham Road toward Gaskins and Pump Road. The stretch at this address is suburban and residential, with mid-century detached houses, and the commercial strips along Parham Road and Quioccasin Road are within a short drive or bus ride. Men living here are close to the office, medical and retail employment that fills western Henrico, and to Interstate 64 for work further out.
Henrico County Recovery Housing and a County Seat That Is a City
Henrico County has an unusual arrangement worth understanding before choosing an address in it. Its county seat is the independent city of Richmond, which is not part of the county. County courts, county social services and the county government center on Parham Road serve residents here, while the state agencies and the largest hospitals sit a few miles east inside a separate jurisdiction. Both are close, and GRTC bus routes cross the line, so the split is administrative more than practical. It matters when a resident has a court date or a benefits appointment and needs to know which building to go to.
A Single-Gender Sober House in a Suburban Setting
The residence serves men, so the household, the bathrooms and the house meetings all belong to one population. A suburban address trades some of the walkability of a city house for quiet, parking and space, which suits a resident who has a car or a job on a fixed shift. It puts more weight on transport, so the question of how residents get to work and to meetings is worth asking early.
What to Verify About Any Virginia Recovery Residence
Virginia requires certification of recovery residences and recognizes two credentialing bodies, so the first thing to establish about any address is which body accredits it and whether the address appears on the state register. Certification through VARR, the Commonwealth's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, binds a house to a code of ethics, to written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, to a documented relapse and discharge policy, and to a complaint process outside the house. Those are the commitments to ask about by name.
Three Men's Sober Homes in the Richmond Area
The operator runs two other men's residences, on Park Avenue in the city's Museum District and on River Road west of it. All three sit within a few miles of one another along the same western corridor, which means a resident who moves between them keeps the same job, the same providers and the same meetings. Applications go through the operator for all three addresses.
Patterson Park consists of two houses that are dedicated to helping men who have dealt with any life controlling issue such as Addiction or Alcoholism. We highly recommend that our tenants attend 12 step meetings or be involved in some sort of meeting based recovery. It is our goal that through open communication and accountability in our sober living houses that all of us will rebuild ourselves spiritually, physically, and mentally. Ultimately resulting in becoming a productive member of society once again.
