About this Recovery Home

Oakmont is a men's sober house on Oakmont Drive in Henrico, Virginia, in the Lakeside area of Henrico County just north of the Richmond line. The state's certified-residence register lists it under Journey House at Level of Support 1, the peer-run tier, accredited by the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences.

Peer Run Recovery Housing at Level One

Level 1 is the lightest of the certified tiers and the least understood. A peer-run house has no staff living in it. Residents govern the household themselves through a house meeting, shared chores and a written set of rules everyone signs, and the operator stands behind the certification without putting an employee under the roof. That model asks more of a resident and gives him more room. It suits a man who has already done a stretch in a monitored or supervised house, who holds a job, and who needs an affordable sober address more than he needs supervision. It is the wrong fit for someone fresh out of detox.

A Men's Sober House on Oakmont Drive

Oakmont Drive sits in the 23228 ZIP code, the Lakeside and Dumbarton side of Henrico County, where streets of modest single-family homes run right up to the Richmond boundary. The location does two useful things at once. Bus service along Lakeside Avenue and Brook Road reaches downtown Richmond in a short ride, and the Parham Road and Staples Mill corridors put warehouse, retail and trade employment within a few miles. A man without a car can live here and still get to work and to a meeting.

What Certification Obliges a Virginia Sober Home to Do

Certification in Virginia is a legal requirement, not a marketing badge. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services publishes every certified residence with its operator, street and level of support, and a house that holds accreditation has committed to a code of ethics, to handing an applicant the fees and rules in writing before move-in, to a written relapse and discharge policy, and to a complaint process outside the house. A peer-run residence carries those same obligations as a supervised one. The level describes the staffing model, and it says nothing about the standard the house is held to.

Henrico County Sober Living Along the City Boundary

Henrico County has no seat of its own. Richmond, the independent city it surrounds, serves that role while remaining outside the county entirely. For a resident at this address the boundary is administrative and nothing more: the courts, the state behavioral health offices, VCU Health and the region's transit hub sit a few miles south inside the city, and the county's employment and its quieter residential streets sit to the north. Recovery homes in this part of Henrico trade on exactly that position.

Journey House Sober Homes Across the Richmond Metro

Eight Journey House residences serve Richmond and Henrico County, at the peer-run, monitored and supervised levels, for men and women eighteen and over. Because the operator runs the full range, a resident can step down from a supervised house to a monitored one and then to a peer-run address like this one without leaving the network or changing outpatient providers. Journey House also operates a recovery center offering peer support, recovery coaching, job readiness help and referrals into treatment.
